Some years ago I tried my hand at creating a bank of drum sounds for the Yamaha DX7 and family, and a lot of people were into it. So this time around I thought I'd try to do something similar for the DX7's sibling, the Yamaha TX81Z.
In this bank you'll find 32 somewhat-strange drum sounds: some kicks, snares, hats, claps, and… other. The sounds were designed using Patch Base. Also included is a Performance bank that creates 4 different drum kits out of those sounds. Here's an mp3 example of them:
These sounds will also load into a DX11 and sound the same. You can also load them into a DX100 or DX21, but some sounds will be a little different because of the missing extra waveforms on those synths. Still worth checking out though.
The TX81Z is a difficult synth to design traditional drum sounds for. But you get some unique results for sure. A lot of the sounds are velocity sensitive so you vary their dynamics and timbre. Some of them respond to different pitches/notes, and some are a fixed pitch.
Enter your email address below, and you'll get an email with the patches!
The ZIP file you receive contains SysEx files that can be sent to your synth using any SysEx transfer program (such as Sysex Librarian on Mac, MIDI-Ox on Windows, or Sysex Base on iPhone or iPad).
