Roland Alpha Juno 1 Editor Help

MIDI Configuration

When the Alpha Juno-1 is turned on, it always defaults to certain MIDI settings. These need to be changed in order for Patch Base to work (each time you turn on the synth). For each of these settings, you can find them by pressing "MIDI" on the synth until you see the setting you want:

  1. MIDI Ch: Make sure this channel matches the setting under the "Global" section of the Patch Base editor.
  2. MIDI Excl: Set this to "On"

Additionally, if you want to save Tones to the synth, make sure the Memory Protect Switch on the back of the synth is set to "Off".

Tone Fetching (in the Tone editor)

The Alpha Juno-1 will only send its Tone information when you select a new Tone on the synth itself, and when the MIDI configuration on the synth is correct (see the section above on MIDI configuration). So, fetching a Tone is a two-step process:

  1. Open the Tone editor and tap the Fetch button. Patch Base will wait for data.
  2. Select a Tone on the Alpha Juno-1. This will select that Tone and cause the synth to send the Tone's MIDI data out. Patch Base will load the information in the editor.

Bank Fetching

These steps outline how to load the tones that are in your Alpha Juno-1's memory into Patch Base. The Tone Bank of the Alpha Juno-1 can only be dumped by manually pressing buttons on the synth itself. This is a limitation of the hardware.

  1. In Patch Base go to the Tone Bank editor, then tap the Fetch button. Patch Base will wait to receive data.
  2. Press "Data Transfer" and then "Write", holding both buttons down on the synth. While holding them down, press the Bulk Dump button ("1" in the "Number" section).

You should see the progress bar fill until it is complete!

Bank Sending

These steps outline how to send a bank of tones from Patch Base to the Alpha Juno-1. The synth must be in "Bulk Load MIDI.o" mode (note the "o") to receive a bank.

  1. Press "Data Transfer" and then "Write", holding both buttons down on the synth. While holding them down, press the Bulk Load button ("2" in the "Number" section). The synth will now wait for bank data.
  2. In Patch Base go to the Tone Bank editor, then tap the Send button (in the upper right; the Rectangle with Up Arrow icon). Patch Base will start sending the data to the synth.

You should see the progress bar fill until it is complete!
